Our Review

About the book

With her publishing job on the line, Charlotte is sent to the small Southern town of Fairhaven Falls to retrieve an overdue manuscript from bestselling author Nakor Earlsworth. Nakor turns out to be a dragon who defies every stereotype, and their clashing personalities spark an immediate attraction.

Our review

A harried editor, a dragon novelist on deadline and a small town that loves to meddle; this one is pure fun.

We have a soft spot for romances set in publishing, and Phillips turns the premise of chasing a late manuscript into a lighthearted culture clash. Charlotte is a type-A city professional, and Nakor, who lives in a glass house rather than a cave, is wonderfully unlike the hoarding dragons of legend. Their banter has bounce, and the Fairhaven Falls community adds plenty of small-town warmth.

Like other books in the series, it is short, and the romance moves from spark to commitment quickly. The workplace stakes are resolved neatly rather than dramatically, and readers seeking emotional depth may find the conflict light. But as a funny, spicy, short escape, it delivers precisely what it promises, and the closing chapters leave a pleasant afterglow for series fans.

What we loved

  • A fun, publishing-world setup
  • Nakor’s delightfully unconventional dragon persona
  • Snappy banter between leads

Keep in mind

  • Very fast-moving romance with little build-up
  • Low stakes may leave some wanting more conflict

Read it if you like

Readers who like Emily Henry’s Book Lovers but want a dragon, or enjoy monster romances like Ruby Dixon’s.

The verdict

A short, cheerful monster romance whose publishing-world premise gives it extra charm.
